ProPleat BIONIC FABRIC + TEFLON™ TREATMENT CARE GUIDE

This care guide applies to all Horzehoods ProPleat coat designs.
Your coat is constructed using Bionic-Finish® Eco polyester performance fabric with a Teflon™ water-repellent treatment.
Bionic fabric is high performance, eco-friendly and made from recycled fibres.

Pleats are machine-pressed during manufacturing. Because the fabric is polyester-based, pleats can be heat-set at production to hold permanent crease memory which has been done on this garment we created.

To maintain the 15,000mm waterproof performance and to keep the pleats crisp, please follow the care rules below:

PLEATS

Pleats may lightly crease during riding or movement.
A gentle smoothing with the hand should allow them to sit straight again and sit back to their pressed shape.

WASHING

  • Hand wash only — ideally

  • If absolutely necessary for stubborn stains: 30°C max delicate cycle
(Even high performance fabrics have limits against saddle soaps, oils, greases, etc. If doing very messy jobs, use an older layer and save your coat for what it is designed for)

Use only:

  • Non-bio liquid detergent

Do not use:

  • Fabric conditioner / softener (kills water repellency)

  • Powder detergents (leave residue)

  • Bleach

DRYING

  • Hang dry only

  • Do not tumble dry (heat can distort pleat memory long-term)

  • Dry on a strong hanger so the weight naturally drops into shape

IRONING / STEAM

If pleats ever need sharpening:

  • Set iron to low/medium synthetic

  • Lay pleats flat and press gently with a pressing cloth (never direct iron on fabric)

  • Follow the original press lines

  • Do not drag the iron you must press and lift following the original press line

  • Steam can be used carefully down each pleat, but a cloth layer between iron and fabric is required

MAINTAINING MAX WATERPROOFING

All premium waterproof fabrics require top-ups of DWR (durable water repellent).

Signs the DWR is wearing:

  • Water stops beading and begins to absorb / darken the fabric

Re-treat every few months or when needed.
Frequent washing = more frequent re-treats.

HOW TO RE-TREAT — STEP-BY-STEP

1) Clean the Coat

  • Empty pockets, fasten zips + Velcro tabs

  • Use a specialist performance cleaner (Nikwax Tech Wash / Grangers Performance Wash)
→ household detergents leave residue which destroys DWR

  • Machine wash gentle synthetic cycle at 30°C if needed

  • Do not turn the coat inside out

2) Apply DWR (Spray-On Method)

  • Recommended for lined jackets so only the outer is treated

  • Hang the damp coat

  • Spray evenly over outer fabric from 15–20 cm distance (TX.Direct Spray-On / Grangers Performance Repel Plus etc)

  • Wipe excess to avoid patch marks

  • Ensure seams + high abrasion areas are covered

3) Activation

  • Nikwax does not require heat activation, air dry is fine

  • Do not tumble dry this garment

  • Allow full air dry for 24 hours before wearing

STORAGE

  • Store hung, not folded or crushed (protects pleat memory)

  • Keep away from direct strong heat (radiators / AGA etc)

FINAL NOTE

This coat has been developed inside the HH product development room and manufactured with factories specialising in premium ski wear because of how unique and technical the idea is.
However, even the highest end product is only as durable as the care it receives.

Look after your ProPleat and it will continue to look after you.
